John developed a strong interest in military history through his father, Roy Hatton, Ph.D., who was a student of Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose and a History Professor at Murray State University. His father often took the family on trips to battle sites, including Shiloh, Vicksburg, Chickamauga, and Lookout Mountain. John has also toured Chalmette, and Gettysburg, and while studying in Europe he visited WWI and WWII battlefields. John’s interest naturally flowed into his artwork. Using traditional mediums of oil, acrylic, and watercolor as well as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator he has created works which range from illustrative to symbolic for various publications.
